John Franklin has been the Averett men's golf coach since 2008. Since taking the reins of the program, the Cougars have five team wins and seven individual victories, as well as a third-place finish at the USA South Conference championship in 2010.
Franklin guided the Cougars to back-to-back wins at the Lynchburg College Hornet Invitational in 2009 and 2010, as well as a win at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational in 2010. In 2012-13, Averett won the Virginia State Intercollegiate and the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Scarlet championship.
In his five seasons as coach, Franklin has produced 10 all-conference selections and one USA South Rookie of the Year. In 2013, Franklin coached Brandon Grogan to the USA South Conference championship.
Franklin served as the head golf coach at Dan River High School for six seasons prior to coming to Averett. He has also been the assistant club professional at Tuscarora Country Club in Danville, Va., for the past nine years. At Tuscarora, he was responsible for running local tournaments, local youth programs and teaching the game of golf to students of all ages and levels of skill.
In addition to working at Tuscarora, Franklin is the Director of the Danville Junior Golf Tour. This is a summer youth program designed to teach the game of golf and provide competition to kids from the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County areas.
