DANVILLE, Va. — More than 60 local boys and girls learned techniques such as passing and dribbling from the Averett University men's and women's soccer teams during a youth clinic on Sunday at Averett's North Campus.
"The kids were enthusiastic and the coaches were enthusiastic," Averett men's soccer coach
Ed Goodhines said.
Averett coaches and players served as counselors as the 63 campers rotated through five different stations focusing on a different aspect of the game. The kids spent about 12 minutes at each of the five stations, which included shooting, dribbling, passing and receiving, trapping and heading.
The kids also played several skill-oriented games and finished off the day with scrimmages against the counselors.
"There were many parents who were very appreciative," Goodhines said.
The Cougars, themselves, also got something out of the camp: future help. Several campers signed up to be ball boys and ball girls at future Averett soccer games.
