DANVILLE, Va. — Averett scored two goals in the second half to pull away for a 3-1 victory over Peace College on Sunday at the Cougar Den. The win ended a three-game skid for the Cougars (5-7, 2-4 USA South).

Averett freshman Kaitlin Robinson broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 68th minute. Robinson's shot found the back of the net off a rebound from a save on teammate Hillary Wood's shot.

Wood eventually got her own goal in the 85th minute to give the Cougars some insurance. Wood scored directly from in front of the goal off a pss from Mary-Kate Cogan. It was Wood's team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Averett's offense got rolling early when freshman Claire Armstrong scored a little more than two minutes into the game on a header off a corner kick by fellow freshman Ringa Remes.

Peace (1-10, 1-3 USA South) took advantage of an Averett misplay on a goal kick, which allowed Haley Bright to tie the game with her seventh goal of the season in the 17th minute.

Averett, which outshot Peace 34-16, couldn't connect on several other opportunities in the first half.

Averett sophomore Samantha Lupo had seven saves in goal for the Cougars.
