DANVILLE, Va. — Greensboro College handed Averett a 3-0 loss on Tuesday, spoiling Senior Night for the Cougars' six seniors. The Pride won 25-19, 26-24, 25-21.
Averett (20-13, 11-4 USA South) got off to a slow start in the opening set, falling behind 12-6. Greensboro (7-27, 5-11 USA South) extended that advantage to 23-14 before the Cougars rattled off five straight points. Greensboro, however, won the next two points to finish off the set.
The Cougars came out strong in the second set and took a 10-5 lead. With Averett ahead 17-11, Greensboro began chipping away. The Pride took the next seven points to go ahead by one. The two teams battled back and forth until Greensboro pulled out ther 26-24 win.
Like the first set, Greensboro opened the third set with a big lead. The Pride jumped out to a 10-4 advantage. A five-point rally helped Averett get back into the game, but Greensboro eventually closed it out.

Hannah Wetherald all finished with six kills. Senior
Marie Keatts had a team-high 17 digs along with 12 assists. Sophomore
Jesse Jones led the team with 35 assists.
Before the game, the Cougars honored their six seniors — Maupin, Keatts,
Brandy Apple,
Brooke Leighton,
Stephanie Smith and
Kelly McGrath.
Averett returns to action on Thursday in a non-conference match at Roanoke College at 7 p.m.
