FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Methodist University defeated Averett 5-1 in USA South play on Saturday afternoon.
Averett's lone shot came on a Hillary Wood goal less than four minutes in, which gave the Cougars (4-5, 1-2 USA South) the early lead.
Methodist (6-5, 2-1 USA South) then scored five unanswered goals, including a pair by Danielle Minichello that put the Monarchs ahead 2-1 by the 30th minute.
Averett sophomore Samantha Lupo had eight saves in goal.
