THE GAME
Averett enters this week’s regular-season finale against N.C. Wesleyan College fresh off a 34-28 triple-overtime victory at Ferrum College. That win set up a showdown for the USA South Conference championship this weekend. N.C. Wesleyan, which is coming off a 38-28 win over Shenandoah, is the only undefeated team in the conference at 6-0. The Cougars, who are 5-1, need a win over the Bishops to earn a share of the conference title. A win would also give Averett the tie-breaker for the USA South’s automatic berth into the NCAA playoffs. As part of the Senior Day activities, Averett's seniors will be recognized before the game.

THE SERIES
N.C. Wesleyan holds a 3-2 edge in the series lead after taking the last two meetings. In games played at the Cougar Den, the two schools have split the series 1-1.

NOTABLE
Averett’s win over Ferrum was its seventh victory in their last eight games.  This is the first time Averett has opened a season with a 7-2 record through nine games. The team’s seven wins tie the school’s single-season record. The Cougars’s previous best start was a 6-2 mark in 2006, the same season the team went on to win a share of the USA South championship.
When it comes to turnover margin, Averett ranks second in the nation among Division III schools. The Cougars have a plus-18 turnover margin, which also leads the USA South Conference.
Averett’s top-ranked pass defense (136.4) will be tested by N.C. Wesleyan’s top-ranked pass offense (275.0) in Saturday’s game. The Bishops also boast the USA South’s No. 1 scoring offense, led by quarterback Bo Jordan, who ranks first in passing average, total offense and pass efficiency.
