Jeremy Dixon was selected to the D3Football.com Team of the Week as a return specialist. Dixon was also named the USA South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Tuesday. It's the second time Dixon has received that honor this season.
The return was his second career punt return touchdown. He also returned a punt 50 yards for a score last season against Greensboro College. Dixon is the first player in the program's history to return two punts for a touchdown in a career.
Earlier this season, Dixon became only the second player in Averett history to return a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown in a career after he returned a kickoff 88 yards for a score against Christopher Newport University. His punt return last weekend made him the first Cougars to ever achieve both feats in a single season.
Averett hosts N.C. Wesleyan College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The winner of that game will earn the USA South Conference's automatic berth into the NCAA playoffs.
