GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford College dominated the glass as the No. 3 ranked Quakers handed Averett an 81-56 loss on Tuesday night.

Guilford (3-0), which knocked the Cougars out of last year's NCAA Tournament in the second round, won the battle on the boards 53-37.

Although Averett (0-4) led 5-3 in the opening minutes, Guilford grabbed the lead on a Clay Henson 3-pointer and never relinquished the lead after that point. The Quakers, who slowly grew their lead to 37-22 at the break, never had their advantage drop to single digits after halftime. Averett closed the gap to 11 points on three occasions in the second half, but the Cougars couldn't get any closer. Guilford's 12-0 run midway through the second period put the game out of reach.

Guilford's Tyler Sanborn led all players with 19 points and 18 rebounds. Gabriel Lowder scored 14 points and Clay Henson added 12 points for the Quakers.

Sophomore Chris Pagentine led the Cougars with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Sophomore Kenny Hart finished with nine points, while sophomore Victor Cortes and freshman Leonard Johnson added eight points apiece. Johnson also reeled in seven rebounds.

Averett returns to action on Nov. 29 against Otterbein College in Greensboro.
