DANVILLE, Va. — Fourth-seeded Averett came from behind to score six unanswered goals in a 6-2 victory over fifth-seeded Greensboro College in the USA South Conference Tournament quarterfinals at the Cougar Den on Tuesday.
Averett (10-7-1), which had never hosted a conference tournament game, made more history by earning the program's first conference tournament win. The Cougars advance to play No. 1 seed Christopher Newport University on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville.
Greensboro (4-10-2) struck early, scoring two goals in the opening 10 minutes of play. David Andreski scored at the 8:34 mark, and Richard Page gave the Pride a 2-0 advantage off a free kick from 30 yards out less than two minutes later.
