THE GAME
• Averett enters this week’s road game against
Ferrum College fresh off a 24-22 victory over Shenandoah University. The Cougars have won six of their last seven games. Ferrum, meanwhile, is coming off a 28-14 loss to Christopher Newport University.

• Ferrum holds the all-time series lead 7-2. Averett is 0-5 in games played at Ferrum. Last season, Ferrum beat the Cougars 30-9 in Danville.
NOTABLE
• This is the second time Averett has opened a season with a 6-2 record through eight games. The Cougars also accomplished that feat in 2006, the same season the team went on to win a share of the USA South championship.
• When it comes to turnover margin, Averett is among the top teams in the country. The Cougars rank sixth in the nation with a plus-13 turnover margin, which also leads the USA South Conference.
• Senior
Dontavious Watson turned in the Cougars’ first individual 100-yard rushing performance of the season. Watson had 21 carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
• Ferrum and Averett ranks second and third, respectively in scoring offense among USA South teams. Ferrum averages 27.0 points a game, while the Cougars score 25.2 points a contest. However, Ferrum also allows 27.0 points a game while Averett allows just 20.9 points.
• Despite having the conference’s worst passing offense, Ferrum has the top rush offense in the USA South. The Panthers average 284.4 yards on the ground. Averett offense, which is more balanced, ranks fifth in passing and fifth in rushing.
• Averett ranks second in the conference in total defense (306.5).
