FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Averett freshman
Brandon Douglas was selected as the USA South Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Douglas, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds per contest last week .
In a 68-56 non-conference loss to Bridgewater, Douglas contributed seven points, a game-high five assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block. In a 90-84 win over USA South rival Christopher Newport, Douglas tallied a career-high 26 points with a game-high five assists and three rebounds. Finally, in a 71-66 loss to Shenandoah, Douglas dished out a team-high six assists, scored four points and grabbed three rebounds.
Douglas is the second Cougar to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season. Fellow freshman
Michael St. John has also received the award twice.
Averett ends regular-season play on Tuesday at home against N.C. Wesleyan College at 7:30 p.m.
