DANVILLE, Va. — Averett's offense was on fire as the Cougars demolished Arcadia University 20-1 on Wednesday at Owen-Fulton Field.

As Averett's offense succeeded, so did the pitching. The Cougars (16-8) used five pitchers to toss a two-hitter. Freshman Chris Moyer improved to 3-0 after going five innings while allowing just one hit and one walk.

Moyer got plenty of run support early as Averett followed up a two-run first inning with six runs in the second. The Cougars scored at least one run in every at-bat except for in the fifth and finished with 25 total hits.

Junior Dion Wilder and freshman Jimbo Newcomb led the Cougars with three hits apiece as Averett coach Ed Fulton went to his bench midway through the game. Ten Cougars had at least two hits against Arcadia (0-8), including sophomore Rusty Brown, who smacked a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

Averett, which ended a three-game skid with the victory, will return to action on Friday against Franklin & Marshall College at 3 p.m.
