WINCHESTER, Va. — Averett cruised to an 8-1 conference victory over Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon. The win was the Cougars' third in their last four matches.

Averett (5-6, 3-2 USA South) swept all six singles matches against the Hornets (2-11, 0-6 USA South). Junior Xavier Ruiz and freshman John Thrower each won 6-0, 6-1, while freshman David Lembke and sophomore Perry Bason both won 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Kirill Orlov and junior Bruno Faidutti won 6-0, 6-0.

Ruiz and Lembke teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while Orlov and Faidutti won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
