DANVILLE, Va. — Averett slipped past Methodist University for a 5-4 victory in both teams' USA South regular season finale on Sunday morning. After taking two doubles matches, the Cougars won three singles matches to seal their fourth win in five matches.
Averett (6-6, 4-2 USA South) got a straight-set singles win from freshman

Kirill Orlov and junior
Bruno Faidutti pulled out victories in three sets. Orlov won his first set 6-2, but dropped the second set 7-5. Orlov rebounded with a convincing 6-1 win in the third set. Faidutti, meanwhile, won 6-2 before losing 4-6. He completed the win with a 6-3 score in the third set.

Xavier Ruiz won their No. 1 doubles match, and Faidutti and Orlov won their No. 2 doubles competition.
Averett's win over Methodist (9-8, 3-3 USA South) gave the Cougars the third seed in this week's USA South Conference Tournament. Averett will play sixth-seeded Ferrum College on Friday at 1 p.m. in Burlington, N.C.
