BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Averett junior
Adam Higgins led off the game with a home run, and the Cougars' offense never stopped pouring on the runs from there in a 24-10 win at Bridgewater College on Tuesday.
Higgins finished 4-for-5 with two homers, five RBIs and five runs scored as Averett (23-15) pounded out a season-high 28 hits in its regular season finale.
The Cougars put up four runs in the first inning, but only led 6-5 entering the fourth inning. Averett plated five runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to pull away from Bridgewater (17-15-1).

Michael Moore and and junior
Dion Wilder each went 5-for-6. Moore had a home run and six RBIs, while Wilder drove in two runs.

Brian Knowles earned the victory.
The Cougars begin play in the USA South Conference Tournament on Thursday in Burlington, N.C. Averett will face Shenandoah University at 1 p.m. in the first round.
