DANVILLE, Va. — Averett has added Dan Nadel as a goalkeeper coach for the Averett men's and women's soccer programs.

"We are so excited to have Dan on board here at Averett University to work with our goalkeepers," Averett men's soccer coach Ed Goodhines said. "Dan brings a load of experience working with goalkeepers of all ages, and has worked for some of the most highly regarded goalkeeping coaches in the Northeast. He will definitely make our keepers better."

A 2008 graduate of Post University, Nadel played four seasons for the Division II Eagles' men's soccer team. Nadel was a four-year starter, logging more than 3,555 minutes in goal. He finished his career with a .750 save percentage. In 2008, he helped his team win the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship as the team captain and was consistently ranked nationally in the top 25 for saves, save percentage and goals against average.

In addition to playing, Nadel gained goalkeeping coaching experience while serving as an instructor at various youth summer soccer games in the Connecticut from 2001-2005.

"We feel very lucky to bring Dan Nadel on board to both programs," Averett women's soccer coach Carly Pierce said. "He comes with a wealth of knowledge, specifically in the area of goalkeeping, and will be vital to the future successes of both the women's and the men's program."

Nadel comes to the Cougars after a highly successful two-year stint as the goalkeeper coach at Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, Conn. In that two-year period, Nadel helped to guide a struggling program that counted a total of four wins in the two seasons prior to his arrival all the way to the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

“The improvements we saw in our goalkeepers were crucial to our success,” said Adam Sebastian, the head coach of Sacred Heart High School. “Danny will bring success to any program he works with.”

The Farmington, Conn., native earned his bachelor's degree in English in December 2008. Nadel earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Academic Team honors all four years.

Nadel also serves as the Manager of Recreation Operations for the Piedmont Youth Soccer League in Martinsville, Va. He is currently working toward his MBA from Averett.
