DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University football coach
Mike Dunlevy has added two assistants to his coaching staff.
Sean Hall joins the Cougars as the running backs coach, while
Stan Hodgin will serve as the team's wide receivers coach.
"I’m excited to have both guys on the offensive staff," said Dunlevy, who is entering his ninth season at Averett.
Hodgin comes to Averett after coaching the past five seasons at nearby Halifax County High School, including the final three as the school's head coach. Prior to his time at Halifax County, Hodgin was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for 13 seasons at Person County High School in Roxboro, N.C.
"We’re exciting to bring Stan Hodgin on board," Dunlevy said. "He’s got 18 years of coaching experience at the high school and college levels. We’re excited about the experience that he brings to our offense, especially with the offensive success that he had at Halifax. I think he’ll bring that to the table with coaching our wide receivers."
Hodgin graduated in from Carson-Newman College in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in Health & Physical Education. He was a quarterback on the 1984 NAIA national championship team. He also served as a student-coach on the school's 1986 NAIA national championship team.
Hodgin is currently working on Master's in Health from University of Central Arkansas. He and his wife, Laurie, have four daughters, Ashley, Zoe, Kasey and Delaney.
Hall, who will also help with Averett's strength and conditioning program, was a four-year letter winner in football and track and field at Ursinus College. On the gridiron, he played two years as a defensive back and two years as a wide receiver. He received Ursinus' Outstanding Senior Performer Award for offensive following the 2009 season. In track, Hall was a three-time Centennial Conference medalist, a four-time Penn Relays Qualifier and served as a captain during the winter and spring seasons of his senior year.
A native of Doylestown, Pa., Hall earned a bachelor's degree in Exercise & Sports Science. He was also an officer in the Exercise & Sports Science Honors Society (Phi Epsilon Kappa). Hall's previous coaching experience included time as a strength and conditioning intern coach at the University of South Carolina.
"Sean has a great work ethic," Dunlevy said. "He’s a guy that is going to get it done and comes with a lot of recommendations. He was successful at Ursinus and I know he will bring that same mindset to our program."
As a graduate-assistant, Hall plans to pursue a Master's in Business Administration at Averett and is pursuing his CSCS professional certification in strength and conditioning.
