Averett selected sixth in USA South women's soccer preseason poll

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Averett University was voted sixth in the USA South Conference women's soccer preseason poll, which was released on Wednesday. Defending USA South Tournament champ Christopher Newport University was picked as the 2010 favorite.
CNU received eight of 10 first-place votes, while No. 2 Meredith College received the other two first-place votes. Greensboro College and Shenandoah University tied for third and Methodist University rounded out the top five. Following Averett, the conference coaches voted N.C. Wesleyan College seventh, Ferrum College eighth, Peace College ninth and Mary Baldwin 10th.
Averett, which finished 7-10-1 overall (3-5-1 USA South) a year ago, opens its 2010 season on Sept. 1 at Randolph-Macon College at 4 p.m.
