Averett selected eighth in USA South women's cross country preseason poll

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Averett University was voted eighth in the USA South Conference women's cross country preseason poll, which was released on Wednesday. Christopher Newport University, the 12-time defending USA South Tournament champ, was picked as the 2010 favorite.
Christopher Newport received eight of 10 first-place votes, while No. 2 Shenandoah University received the other two first-place votes. Mary Baldwin College, Meredith College and Methodist University completed the top five. Peace College was sixth, followed by Greensboro College, Averett, N.C. Wesleyan College and Ferrum College.
The Cougars open the season on Sept. 4 at the Guilford College Cross Country Carnival in Greensboro, N.C.
