Volleyball hosts clinic for Special Olympians

DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University volleyball team hosted a clinic in conjunction with the Danville Chapter of Special Olympics on Oct. 14.

The event, held at Averett University's Grant Center, gave the 10 Olympians the chance to practice and learn volleyball skills. Members of the volleyball team coordinated passing and setting drills to teach the participants fundamentals of the sport, and the clinic concluded with the Olympians playing a game with the volleyball team.

"The first time we tried it, everyone who attended seemed to have a good time," Averett head coach Danny Miller said. "We hope to continue to do this and have it grow."

The participants were also invited to stay and watch the team play a volleyball match afterwards, in which Averett defeated Methodist University 3-0.
