DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University helped Wal-Mart break the Guinness World Record for the world's largest photo collage on the floor of the Grant Center Sunday. This project also raised $106,000 for children's hospitals.
The group used more than 45,000 8 by 10 photos to cover 24,378 square feet, breaking the previous record of 22,600 square feet.
Jade White, a Wal-Mart regional marketing manager who was the event organizer, came up with the idea for the project. Workers from 10 Wal-Mart stores in the South Central Virginia region donated their time to the collage. On Sunday, there were about 80 volunteers working on the project, including members of the Averett baseball team.
Averett coach
Ed Fulton and some of his players assisted with the making of this collage.
"It was beneficial for the team because it allowed them to work together and work with others in the community," Fulton said.
Donators to Wal-Mart's Children's Miracle Network campaign submitted about 43,000 photos to be used in the record-breaking collage. An official representative from the Guinness Book of World Records was on hand to verify the record.
