DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University is proud to announce it will induct five new members into its Athletics Hall of Fame in September during Homecoming Weekend. The 2018 class features four former student-athletes in softball's Lindi Beamon '02, women's soccer's
Sandra Johansson '14 and
Pernilla Milton '13, and men's basketball's Jonathan Rumley '09, as well as former men's basketball coach Jimmy Allen.
All five will be inducted during a ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 29, and honored during halftime of the Homecoming football game that evening.
Â
"What an incredible Hall of Fame class," Averett Director of Athletics
Meg Stevens said. "One of our focuses this upcoming year is celebrating our storied history and our alumni. All five members of our 2018 class played a huge factor in Averett's success during their time on campus. It's also uncommon to have a pair of teammates as well as a player and his coach within the same Hall of Fame class."
Allen, Beamon, Johansson, Milton and Rumley will join an elite membership of 34 student-athletes, coaches, administrators and contributors who have been inducted into the Averett Athletics Hall of Fame since 2000.

Lindi Beamon '02
Beamon was a four-year member of the Averett softball program, earning USA South All-Conference First Team honors three times and all-state accolades once. A catcher and designated hitter from the Danville area, Beamon was named Averett's Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2002. In 2014, she was selected to the USA South's 50th anniversary softball team. Beamon had a stellar career while batting .342 while averaging a hit per game in 154 games played. She finished with 169 runs scored, 104 runs batted in, 34 doubles, five home runs and four triples from 1999-2002. During the summer prior to her junior season, Beamon traveled to the Netherlands and Belgium to play internationally for USA Team 2000.

Sandra Johansson '14
Johansson was a midfielder/forward for the Averett women's soccer program from 2010-13. The Gothenberg, Sweden, native totaled 37 goals and 24 assists in 73 career games for the Cougars. Eight of those goals were game-winners. A four-time USA South All-Conference selection, Johansson was voted as the USA South Player of the Year during her senior season. A two-time all-region selection and two-time all-state pick, Johansson helped the Cougars win the 2012 USA South Conference regular season crown and USA South Tournament championship as Averett made its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Off the field, Johansson earned USA South Academic All-Conference recognition three times, received Academic All-District distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team.

Pernilla Milton '13
A forward from Gothenberg, Sweden, Milton was a dominant force for the Averett women's soccer program. In three seasons, Milton scored 41 goals — including 11 game-winners — and had 16 assists in 48 career games. The 2011 USA South Conference Player of the Year earned all-conference honors every season despite a season-ending injury that cut her freshman season in half. In 2012, she was named the USA South Tournament MVP while helping Averett win its first-ever championship and earn the program's first NCAA Tournament berth. An all-region and all-state selection on the field, Milton was just as successful in the classroom. Graduating in three years, Milton earned academic all-conference honors every season, twice was named to the Academic All-District Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and earned academic all-state accolades. Following her final season in blue and gold, Milton was named Averett's Female Student-Athlete of the Year. In 2014, she was selected to the USA South's 50th anniversary women's soccer team. Since graduating, Milton has played professionally in Sweden.
Â
Jonathan Rumley '09
Rumley starred for the men's basketball team for three seasons from 2006-09 after transferring to Averett. A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Rumley's addition helped the Cougars win three consecutive USA South Conference Tournament championships and make three NCAA Tournament appearances in a row. Rumley, a guard, was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-America First Team following his senior year. He also was named the NABC South Region Player of the Year, Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) State Player of the Year and the USA South Player of the Year. A two-time USA South All-Conference First Team selection and two-time USA South Tournament MVP, Rumley finished with 1,186 career points and 511 career rebounds, both of which rank him among Averett's top 10 in each category. Rumley averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and a program-record 2.3 steals per game over 79 career games. He holds several other program records and is one of two Cougars to record a triple-double. He was named Averett's Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2009, and in 2014, Rumley was selected to the USA South's 50th anniversary men's basketball team.

Jimmy Allen
Allen took over a men's basketball program that had gone winless the season prior to his arrival and quickly turned the Cougars into a perennial conference power during his six seasons at Averett between 2004 and 2010. Allen's teams went 97-70, winning three USA South Conference regular season titles and three conference tournament championships while making three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. His 2008-09 squad advanced to the second round. The three-time USA South Coach of the Year holds the program's coaching records for highest winning percentage overall and in conference play. Allen departed following the 2009-10 season to become an assistant coach at Division I Army West Point, where he became the head coach prior to the 2016-17 season.
