Averett University was voted second in the USA South Conference football preseason poll, the conference announced on Tuesday at the league’s media day hosted by Maryville College. Defending conference champion N.C. Wesleyan College was voted as the favorite with five of the seven first-place votes.

The Averett University football program honored its players and handed out the season awards during its annual banquet on Sunday evening at the Grant Center. The Cougars' coaching staff honored its letter-winners, USA South All-Conference and Academic All-Conference players and recognized its seniors during the ceremony. The coaches also awarded a handful of team awards.

The Averett University football team will hold its annual awards banquet on Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Grant Center on the school's North Campus. This year, the banquet will be streamed live on the Internet. The banquet starts at 4 p.m., and the webcast will begin at 5 p.m. for the start of the awards segment.
