VIDEO: Averett SAAC's 'Caring For Carrie' raises cancer awareness, nearly $800

Averett University Athletics and the Averett Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held "Caring for Carrie to help a member of its family currently battling cancer. Averett hosted its "Caring for Carrie" fundraiser on Wednesday during its basketball doubleheader at the Grant Center to benefit Carrie Hendrick, as well as the Jimmy V Foundation.

Hendrick, Averett's former head athletic trainer and current director of the athletic training education program, is battling ovarian cancer. To help support Hendrick's battle, raise money and awareness, Averett and SAAC asked everyone to wear teal to the Cougars' men's and women's basketball games on Wednesday, which also was World Cancer Day. SAAC raised nearly $800 in donations to benefit Hendrick and the Jimmy V Foundation during the games. The event was also part of SAAC's "Pennies for a Purpose" campaign within the USA South Conference.
